Echinacea and Immune Support

Derived from the roots and above ground parts of the plant also known as the Echinacea purpurea, Echinacea supports upper respiratory tract health and is considered to have immune stimulatory effects due to several of its constituents including certain polysaccharides and alkylamides.  Echinacea also seems to generate indirect antiviral activity, possibly by stimulating interferon-like effects.

Polyacetylenic compounds in echinacea help it to scare away bad bugs, and when used topically, echinacea is also reported to support the healing of topical wounds.  Echinacea is most commonly used in supplement form during times of cold weather and changes in climate to support a healthy immune system.

Note:

Echinacea is considered safe when taken orally and used appropriately, short-term for periods up to 12 weeks.

Avoid this product if you are allergic to sunflowers, marigolds, chrysanthemums or daisy-like flowers
. (Allergic response can include itchy watery eyes, runny nose, chest tightness, and anaphylaxis.)
Factoids
  • Interestingly, echinacea was used in the U.S. widely by settlers who learned about the herb's medicinal value from the Plains Indian tribes.
  • The Native American use of echinacea root was then adopted by the Eclectics, a group of doctors who were prominent around the late 19th and early 20th centuries in the US.
  • Echinacea is currently one of the most popular herbal supplements in the U.S.

My husband caught a cold the day after my order arrived. I didn't tell him that he was taking echinacea until after he said he felt better! It must be good!!

This is another product that I do not consume this product normally and have on hand in the event of a need for it. Echinacea is a fine natural antibiotic.

Each Fall/Winter I seem to get Bronchitis.  One day at work I could feel the symptoms in my throat.  I quickly got out my Echinacea and it helped my immune system to overcome the problem and this year I didn't get my typical Bronchitis.
